"Why is communicating important?""Because you can’t do anything without it. Communication is necessary in order to avoid confusion. It’s vital to any successful organization to be clear. When you communicate, you eliminate confusion. Everybody understands the system and understands his responsibilities within the system, so that he can carry them out" – Pat Summitt, head women’s basketball coach, University of Tennessee. |
The importance of Good CommunicationCommunication is an essential element in sports today. With regards to coaching, it involves the motivation and discipline of players. There is no doubt that good coaches communicate effectively. Helping coaches communicate through all levels of the organization is where Winning Identity creates a competitive advantage. In team sports, communication includes situational, organizational and personal aspects, and coaches must find ways to teach both individuals and the team as a whole at the same time. Winning Identity allows for content to be posted in several different ways, so coaches can communicate with an individual or the entire team. This ensures that every player knows exactly what he or she needs to do to help the team to be successful. Without effective communication, individuals in the organization would not know what to do and would not know what others are doing. Winning Identity is great at gathering and feeding information across the network to ensure that everyone knows exactly what they need to do and when it needs to get done. Specifically, scouting reports from the forum as well as recent game reviews and game tapes get fed directly into each player’s homepage. So when a player logs into the network the first thing that pops up is the scouting report and game tapes of the next opponent. This is a way of ensuring that everyone is aware of and prepared for the next game. The aim of organizational communication is to ensure that everyone understands both the external and internal issues facing the organization and what individuals must do to contribute to the organization’s success. Winning Identity facilitates coach and player communication to guarantee that everyone knows what they need to do from a skill development and mental conditioning point of view (internal ) and is prepared for the strengths and weaknesses of all upcoming opponents (external). Help players advance and communicate at all aspects of sport from mental conditioning to practicing drills to motivation. Winning Identity is committed to helping you better educate your players about both sports and life. This system has been put in place to help all teams understand the importance of communication and eclipse the barriers to communication. Utilize this system properly and your team will become one! ____________ Summitt, P. & Jenkins, S. (1998). Reach for the summit: the definite dozen system for succeeding at whatever you do.
